Gucci Beauty x Emma Allegretti
We currently live in unprecedented times. With our lives that have been interrupted, we’re left not knowing if whether the lives we once knew are now part of what we may consider is “the new normal”. Through the Gucci Community, artist Emma Allegretti created whimsical motifs using Gucci Beauty products as her inspiration for what life would be like in her female-only world. Inspired by her days at home, she relays messages of self-care, love, and the reality of social distancing in a series of watercolor illustrations. Through her signature style art, Emma shows us that our lives can still be colorful and playful, and that we all can still have a bright future ahead.
You created a water-coloured world defined by female characters, tell us why.
I find that working in watercolours ads a depth to my illustrations that perfectly reflects the depth of the female characters. It is also incredibly soothing to not stare at a screen and focus wholly on the creation of my work.
Was humour always part of your work? How did it evolve?
Humour has always been a part of my life I would say. I have always found it comforting to make light of certain situations, when appropriate, it seems to make things more manageable and less overwhelming.
You often tackle contemporary social issues, what drives you to that?
I cannot help but tackle what I find to be important. I want my illustrations to have a voice and speak about things that might be uncomfortable for some, in doing so, however it will give strength and reassurance to others.
Where do you find inspiration? Are your characters inspired by women you know?
Absolutely! I am constantly inspired by the women in my life, what surrounds me and what it feel.
