Kurt Cobain - February 20
Born February 20, 1967, Kurt Cobain was known as being the guitarist and frontman of the 90s rock band, Nirvana. Having found global success with the release of his bands critically acclaimed 2nd album, Nevermind, Kurt Cobain became known as the father of grunge. With a life long battle with depression, Kurt succumbed to the pressures of addiction and on April 5th, 1994 he committed suicide at his home in Seattle, WA at the age of 27. His time with Nirvana may have been short lived, but he made a lasting impact not only on the grunge community but in the entire music community. In 2014, Kurt Cobain and along with his former bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Cindy Crawford - February 20
Born February 20, 1966, Cindy Crawford found her success as an international supermodel throughout the 80s and 90s. She graced the covers of fashion magazines and campaigns and walked the runway for some of the most renowned fashion designers in the industry such as Chanel, Versace and Dior. While she no longer models full time, she occasionally appears in fashion magazines and is a celebrity endorser for a range of projects as well as one of the creators of the beauty product line Meaningful Beauty.
Drew Barrymore - February 22
Born February 22, 1975, Drew Barrymore is an American actress who achieved fame as a child in the movie E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. With her sudden stardom, Drew endured a difficult childhood which resulted in drug abuse, major partying and eventually a stay at rehab. Leaving the past behind her, Drew Barrymore eventually went on to become a household name in the film industry with starring roles such as “Charlie’s Angels”, “Never Been Kissed”, “The Wedding Singer” and many more.
George Harrison - February 25
Born February 25, 1943, George Harrison is best known as the lead guitarist for one of the most influential rock bands of all time, The Beatles. While most songs were written by Lennon and McCartney, some major hits such as “Here Comes The Sun”, “Something” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” were written by George Harrison himself. After the breakup of The Beatles, George Harrison went on to have a successful solo career throughout the 70s and 80s and eventually formed the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys. Having been treated for lung cancer the previous year, it is thought his cancer returned after having fallen victim to a stabbing attack in his home in December of 1999. George Harrison passed away on November 29, 2001. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a solo artist and a member of The Beatles.
Elizabeth Taylor - February 27
Born February 27, 1932, Elizabeth Taylor was a British-American actress. She began her career as a child and went on to be one of the most popular stars in Old Hollywood cinema. Some of her biggest roles to date include “Cleopatra”, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?” and “Giant”. She eventually went on to stage and television roles until she retired in 2007. On March 23, 2011, Elizabeth Taylor passed away due to congestive heart failure at the age of 79. Through the course of her career, Elizabeth Taylor received some of the most top awards and honors in the film industry such as several Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
Brian Jones - February 28
Born February 28, 1942, Brian Jones is best known as the founder and original leader of the British rock band, Rolling Stones. Having formed the band, he was an important and influential member of the Rolling Stones until his slow estrangement with the other members. He struggled with substance abuse and his contributions to the band became sporadic. He was ultimately dismissed from the band as he was unable to attain a work permit for their upcoming North American tour. Four months later, he was found at the bottom of his swimming pool, motionless having been under the influence of drugs and alcohol. At the age of 27, Brian Jones was pronounced dead as “death by misadventure” on July 3, 1969.
Camilla Cabello - March 3
Born March 3, 1997, Camilla Cabello is a Cuban-American singer best known as a member of the musical group Fifth Harmony. She originally auditioned as a solo contestant on the music competition show The X Factor USA, but having been disqualified in the “bootcamp” portion of the competition, she was brought back with other contestants to form the girl group, Fifth Harmony - eventually coming in third place in the competition. With the new found success, she eventually departed the group 4 years later to focus on her solo career, which she has since released 2 studio albums. She has gone on to become one of the most successful artists from the show having won 2 Latin Grammy Awards, 4 American Music Awards, and a Billboard Award, just to name a few.
Catherine O’Hara - March 4
Born March 4, 1954, Catherine O’Hara is a Canadian - American actress and comedian who started her career in the 1970s as a cast member of The Second City, an improvisational comedy touring troupe. She’s best known for her roles in “Beetlejuice”, “Home Alone”, “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. Today, she stars in the Canadian hit television sitcom Schitt’s Creek. She has won several Canadian Screen Awards as well as an Emmy over the course of her career.
Liza Minnelli - March 12
Born March 12, 1946, Liza Minnelli is an American singer and actress. Having followed in the foot steps of her parents Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, she went on to become a successful actress having started her career on stage. She’s best known for her role in the musical film, Cabaret which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress. After the death of her mother, Liza suffered from alcoholism and prescription drugs but has managed to lead a very successful career. At the age of 74, she still works as an actress and has occasionally guest starred in several tv sitcoms and films.
Alexander McQueen - March 17
Born March 17, 1969, Alexander McQueen was a British Fashion Designer. He found the luxury fashion house, “Alexander McQueen” in 1992 after his graduation from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, which he earned an MA in Fashion. He was one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, which he won 4 times. He suffered from anxiety and depression and dabbled in a lot of drugs. On February 11, 2010, Alexander Mcqueen committed suicide by hanging. To date, his line still thrives and is ran by creative director Sarah Burton, who has gone on to present each year during Paris Fashion Week.
