Lovers, Dreamers, Serial Killers
Luke Grimes and Emily Browning star as Jack Blueblood and Karen Bird in a Bonnie & Clyde esq film set in 1974. Having escaped a mental institution, both damaged lovers set out on a killing spree thru the desert highway to Los Angeles in a stolen 1961 white Cadillac to kill the king of Rock n Roll.
Directed by Eddie O’Keefe, Shangri-La Suite is complete with vintage style and classic covers of songs. The soundtrack was produced by Mondo Boys with contributions from Father John Misty, Foxygen's Jonathan Rado (both covering songs by The Velvet Underground) and the films own Emily Browning singing Mondo Boy's original, "I don't wanna die."
The low budget film showcases an authentic vintage 70s look by using 16mm film. Though the film shows the depressed and lonely side of Elvis Presley (played by Ron Livingston), it also has a very inspiring and trippy fairy tale vibe to it. With it's real sets taking place at the grand canyon, middle of nowhere hotels and long american desert highways, this film will inspire you to go on a road trip across the US. I think I'm ready for a road trip of my own.
