On The Radar: Sunbeam Sound Machine

Sunbeam Sound Machine is the brainchild of multi instrumentalist, Nick Sowersby. His debut LP, Wonderer (released in October of 2014) was written, recorded and produced in his garage in Melbourne, Australia and mixed by Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Releasing music since 2013, I've only discovered this musical genius about 2 year ago and became an instant fan. The dreamy and hazy psychedelic sounds would appeal to fans of Animal Collective, Washed Out, and Tame Impala. Sowersby works his magic by providing minimal lyrics which leaves room for the beautifully arranged sounds, effortless echoes and tons of reverb.

Listening to Wonderer feels as if you're in a kaleidoscope of color and haze. It's almost as if you're lost in space or in some other dimension, which he literally brings to life in several of his music videos. The barely audible lyrics not only make you think of the "What if's?" in life but they also give you a feeling of hope and enlightenment. There's a sense of beauty and mystery with this album. Call me crazy, but I almost feel like I'm on a journey to self discovery every time I listen to his music.

Give his music a listen and judge for yourself.
