Edie Sedgwick
April 20
American socialite, actress and model, Edie Sedgwick is best known for being one of Andy Warhol’s muses by starring in several of his short avant-grade films in the 1960s. At the age of 21, the social butterfly relocated to New York City in hopes of starting a career in modeling. Though many of her films with Andy were released underground and at The Factory, she gained mainstream success for her appearances in Vogue and her sense of style. Throughout her life, Edie struggled with drug abuse and erratic behavior. She ultimately returned to her family’s ranch in Santa Barbara, CA in hopes to recover after having several failed attempts in mental hospitals. She completed her most popular avant-garde film “Ciao! Manhattan”, but never saw the finished product as she died soon after filming was complete. She passed away at the age of 28 on November 16, 1971 due to “acute barbiturate intoxication”.
Queen Elizabeth II

Born in 1926, Queen Elizabeth II is one of the oldest living and longest-serving and reigning female head of state of the British Monarch and the Commonwealth realms. Having kept this title for over 65 years, the Queen’s coronation took place on June 2, 1953 at Westminster Abbey, London. A lover of corgi’s, the beloved Queen will be turning 94 this year.
Robert Smith
April 21
Most notable for his role as frontman of the rock band The Cure, Robert Smith made way in the post punk and new wave movements in the 80s with a strong influence of the emerging genre, gothic rock. His trademark style of smeared lipstick, dark eyeliner and disheveled hair created what became known as the “gothic image”. The Cure received commercial popularity with its hit’s “Just Like Heaven”, “Lovesong”, and “Friday I’m In Love”. Smith, along with his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. He’ll be turning 61 this year.
Iggy Pop
April 21
Referred to as the “Godfather of Punk”, Iggy Pop is best known for his role as vocalist in the rock band, The Stooges. His outrageous and erratic stage antics consisted of on-stage self mutilation, stage diving and his bare chested performances. Along with the other member of The Stooges, Iggy Pop was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 and in January 2020, he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He’ll be turning 73 this year.
Bettie Page

Known as the “Queen of Pin-up”, Bettie Page was an American model who was greatly known for her pin-up photos throughout the 1950s. Her signature look was jet-black hair and her trademark bangs, which has since become a popular hair style throughout the decades. She became known as the first famous bondage model posing for photographer Irving Klaw in BDSM photographs as well as appearing in short films as a dominatrix. Her career was rather short lived, having retired from modeling in 1958 and converting to born again Christianity. Throughout her later life, she struggled with mental health and spent 10 years in a psychiatric hospital for attempted murder on her former landlord. She struggled to receive royalties from earlier work as a lot of her photos were already in public domain. Bettie passed away at the of 85 in December 11, 2008.
Shirley Temple

America’s little sweetheart, Shirley Temple is best known for her role as a child actress, singer and dancer in the 1930s. She began her film career at the young age of 3 and capitalized on license merchandise such a clothes and dolls with her “wholesome” image. She appeared in over 40 films before the age of 21, though ultimately retiring at the age of 22 having struggled with being typecast. She returned to show business several years later appearing in television and guest roles but ultimately focused on her role in a diplomatic career in her later life. She passed away at the age of 85 in 2014.
Jean Paul Gaultier

Never formally trained, the French fashion designer, Jean Paul Gaultier got his start in fashion by sending sketches to designers, which Pierre Cardin eventually took notice and brought him on as an assistant in 1970. In 1982, he found his fashion label and was best known for his haute couture line as well as being the womenswear creative director for the French luxury fashion house of Hermes from 2003-2010. For many years he worked simultaneously on 3 collections, though he ultimately chose to end the ready-to-wear labels in his line to focus completely on haute couture. In 2020, he retired from runway with the SS20 collection being his last presentation in Paris Fashion Week. Jean Paul will be turning 68 this year.
Wes Anderson

The American director, Wes Anderson has been considered an “auteur” for his own distinct quality in filmmaking. His films have garnered attention by their own visual styles with distinctive color palettes, story telling, and specific camera moves. He’s notable for directing “The Royal Tenenbaums”, “Moonrise Kingdom” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. Recently, he’s begun to focus more on stop motion animation and miniatures. The Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winner will be turning 51 this year.
Audrey Hepburn
May 4
British actress, Audrey Hepburn is best known as one of the greatest female screen legends in Golden Age Hollywood as well as being a fashion style icon. In her early years, she studied ballet and began her acting career in musical theatre. She rose to stardom by starring in films such as “Roman Holiday”, “Sabrina”, “Funny Face”, “My Fair Lady”, and most notably “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Throughout her career, she had won several Academy, Emmy, Tony, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. In the later years of her life, she chose to focus on UNICEF, a humanitarian organization and developmental aid to children. She passed away at the age of 63 at her home in Switzerland in 1993.
Sid Vicious
May 10
The notorious Sid Vicious is best known as the bassist in the English punk band, Sex Pistols. Even though he was popularly known as being the bands’ bass player, his music is only partially heard in one song on the band’s only album “Never Mind the Bullocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols”. He became popular for his tumultuous relationship with Nancy Spungen, a girlfriend of his who died from a stab wound at the famed Hotel Chelsea. Having struggled with drugs and being under suspicion of murder of his late girlfriend, Sid died 4 months later from a heroin overdose at the young age of 21 in 1979. In 2006, Sid along with the other members of the Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an event that none of the former members attended.
Salvador Dali

Spanish artist, Salvador Dali was known for his eccentric and often times bizarre work. His artistic repertoire included all sorts of mediums in art such as painting, film, graphic arts, sculpture, design and photography. As well as being an artist, he was also a writer and wrote fiction, criticisms and poetry essays. His work was often interpreted as sexual and his lifelong interest in science and math were often depicted in his work which was mostly based off of his dreams and subconscious. The artist passed away at the age of 84 in 1989. Currently, there are two major museums in Florida and his hometown Spain which are devoted entirely to his work.
